EXPERT VIEW - Sit `N Go Tournament Poker, The Reason For The Internet
|
22 October 2005
I just finished playing in back to back sit and go tournaments. Is it Sit `N Go or Sit And Go? Which is the optimal term, I wonder? Anyway, these single table poker tournaments are the reason why Al Gore created the Internet, that and the ease with which you can meet a horny MILF who lives within 0-25 miles of your zip code at 2 a.m. on a Saturday.
Back to the poker, because that`s why you`re here, right? I was looking for the $500 sit `n go at Pokerroom.com, a site that has great single table tournaments in general. It wasn`t happening so I eased into a $100 game. These fill up with regularity on pokerroom.com, and the standard is just good enough that a very good player can cash with ease. You ideally want players who know enough (do not go all-in preflop with a naked A), but who don`t know a lot (when facing a huge re-raise and you hold AQ it is a good idea to muck it). I have yet to meet a full table`s worth of online poker players who know the latter. I`m sure there are ten of us out there, but thankfully we keep to ourselves.
The first sit and go was ideal until we went heads-up. My opponent was loose and not a great player, but he had managed to accumulate 17000 of the 25000 chips at the table. I won two huge pots and at one point held a 19000-6000 lead, but couldn`t break him. The final hand saw us both pretty much level on +/- 12500 chips (he had me covered by 35 chips). I raised with AK suited. He went all-in, a typical move for him, and I called for all my chips. He turned over 99 and they held up. No complaints.
The second sit `n go saw me finish 3rd, and again I had my chances. Still for 3 hours work it works out to $95/hour. This is my new hourly rate of expected return. I intend to put in 8 hours a day of strictly single table poker. That`s $23000 a month, which I can use to sign up for one of those online services that notifies me when desperate housewives have clicked on my bio.
