LIVE FROM THE WPT - Debating My Earlier Decision
|
18 October 2005
In yesterday`s Super-Satellite qualifier I took the money and ran. Today, as the main event started, I felt a pang of regret that I wasn`t in there rumbling with 413 competitors (and still growing with late registrations!) I banked my winnings, which is great, but maybe I should have taken my shot now...
A list of the qualifiers from yesterday`s event shows the strength of competition. Jim Mc Manus (writer of the excellent "Positively 5th Street"), Chris Bigler (multiple big tournament winner, and he was actually at my table at the end - but wasn`t playing any hands, because his stack was ample enough to assure him a seat), Mark Gregorich, and Lawrence Gosney (World Series Of Poker winner this year). And of course there were run-ins with Joe Sebok, Evelyn Ng, and Kenna James.
Today`s field is massive, and when I left the Bellagio to come back to my hotel room and post this there were already 413 players. More were signing up because they were accepting late registrations for the first hour of the event. All the big names are there, including Doyle himself. I went to a party he held last night, to promote Doyles Room, at Light, a nightclub in the Bellagio. He appeared to be enjoying himself immensely, sitting as if upon a throne surrounded by many dancing nubile lovelies. His son Todd was there as well. A good time was had by all, and the setting was very entertaining.
More to come later from the heart of the main event....
