This was by far my most frustrating and depressing week of poker to date, and resulted in a bit of a loss of confidence. After last week I feel that I was playing really confident poker, and that I was making very few bad decisions. Here is a snapshot of the week`s results:

1. Sunday - Played a $30 Sit `n Go at Paradise Poker and finished 4th. I was never really in it and forced to make a move.

2. Monday - Played in a 30 handed, $20 buy in tournament and finished somewhere in the lower half of the field. I got a really bad run of cards and was caught out every time I tried to make a steal. Eventually made a move with a marginal hand.

3. Tuesday - Played in a $50 Sit `n Go. I started pretty well, winning a few small pots and stealing a couple. Finished 7th and couldn`t really say why at the time.

4. Wednesday - I played in three different tournaments. Finished nowhere in a multi table sit `n go ($20). Just never got going. I then played in two consecutive tournaments - a $30 and  $20 sit `n go and finished 3rd in both. On both occasions I was in a reasonable position but entered pots I should have let go. I was getting overconfident in both cases.

5. Thursday - Finished second to last in a $30 buy in tournament, and 3rd in a $20. In the $20 game I had the chip lead, I called an all in with 8`s in the hole and lost. That more that halved my stack and I just faded away.

5. Friday - Decided to play a quick short handed game for $20 and called an all in on the second hand holding AK suited. I was the underdog against JJ, flopped a K, but a J came on the turn. Played in a 10 handed, $30 buy in tournament and by that point I feel like I had lost a lot of confidence and played very defensively. Finished about 6th.

So all in all a very frustrating week. I have not stopped thinking about poker in the last few days and I think two bad trends have snuck into my game:

1. Limping in too often with marginal hands and getting into trouble and

2. Not getting away from a good starting hand when I know I`m beat.

I feel like I have to go back to my tight game that has worked so well and focus on playing for position if the conditions are right.

This kind of week happens - the poor results are not the real concern here, rather the main concern is the loss of confidence. So much of poker revolves around a positive almost arrogant sense of self. When you feel like you`re "unlucky" or "overmatched", and you`re waiting for the hammer to fall trust me on this one, it will fall and hard.

Your attitude towards the game has to be positive otherwise don`t play. You have to get to the table itching to play, because you love the game and because you are confident that you can win. Why put your money down if you think you`re going to donate it? Poker is a game enjoyed by masochists, which is great because they pay our bills. Don`t let a few bad results infect your mindset and NEVER doubt your abilities.

If you are making mistakes you need to read more poker theory, exercise greater discpline when you play, and trust in the fact that if you play with the right odds eventually those odds will reward you. I know it can be hard to stay peppy when you`re taking one bad beat after another, but self-doubt leads to self-destruction and tilt. Save your bankroll for a day when you feel like you can conquer the world!
