Student`s Bankroll Now Over $1,300.00!
|
07 April 2006
Ryan continues to impress, racking up a $50 Sit&Go victory last night. His bankroll has now soared over $1,300.00 (as of April 7, 2006). That should technically mean a promotion to Level 5, but my inclination is to keep him at Level 4 for a while longer. Here`s why:
At the moment Ryan plays $30 and $50 S&G tournaments and smaller multi-table tournaments. If we bump him up to Level 5 he will have to start competing at $100 Sit and Go tournaments, and psychologically he might not be ready to risk that amount of money. In terms of talent (important) and bankroll (crucial in poker) he is ready for the promotion, but self-confidence is the key. If you go into any poker game feeling nervous in the sense that you might not belong at that level then it becomes very hard to win.
There is a lot of momentum in poker, and it can travel in both directions. When you`re running hot it seems like you cannot lose, and vice versa when the cards seem to hate you personally. It`s all a perception in your mind of course, but if you start out with any doubt it makes it so much harder to succeed.
So, the message is clear: Go at your own pace. Move up when you feel like you can crush that next level, and treat poker as an investment. Do not throw money away ever! We will go up gradually, and when we do Ryan will win at that level as well, because he will approach it with confidence + the correct bankroll + knowledge.
