$800,000 Hand Played In Full Tilt`s TV Cash Game

11 October 2007

October 11 - If you ask anyone who watches or plays high-stakes cash games who the two best poker players in the world are right now they would probably reply Phil Ivey and Patrik Antonius. Chip Reese and Barry Greenstein have history on their side, but these two young guns are completely fearless and have the bankrolls to show that they are now in command.

Thus, it comes as little surprise to read that the two of them were involved in one of the single biggest cash pots ever seen, certainly on TV, as $800,000 was up for grabs in total. Here`s how the hand went down, for those of you who cannot wait to see it televised as part of Full Tilt`s Million Dollas Cash Game:

Antonius held AT and Ivey held JJ.

The flop came: Ac-As-Jc giving Antonius a set of Aces and Ivey a full house. The turn was the 5d and the river was the Qh.

Ivey`s betting and acting antics demonstrate why he is without peer in cash poker right now. Ivey bet out $100,000 on the turn and Antonius flat called making the pot a little over $300k. On the river Ivey appeared to go into the tank, possibly fearing that Antonius was holding QQ, before leading out with a bet of $250,000 - a shade under the pot.

Antonius, known for his unflinching resolve in these scenarios called after a moment or two of typically patient deliberation. He mucked when Ivey showed the boat, but it later emerged that he had flopped top set. The final total of the pot: $807,400.

It must be sweet revenge for Ivey who was schooled by Antonius in a similar cash game prior to the 2007 Aussie Millions, which was also televised and sponsored by Full Tilt Poker. That time around Antonius made a remarkable call with a medium pair (I think it was 88) facing all sorts of implicit peril from the board. Ivey lost that hand and then walked off the set - although that had more to do with an incredibly obnoxious Australian "pro" who was chirping at him after the fact.
