November 26 - Daniel Negreanu and his wife of two years, Lori, have split. That`s the big news that Kid Poker divulged in his latest blog, which Daniel has always treated with an openness that makes Catholic confessional seem reserved.
The news that he is single again is a lot less surprising than the news that he was getting married. Negreanu doesn`t seem cut out for the role of a husband - he`s more like a kid who spends all his time hanging out with buddies playing video games, gambling games, and waving to his mom in the audience as he takes down a multi-million dollar tournament or two.
Since dominating world poker in 2004 with a spectacular run Negreanu has parlayed that celebrity into some lucrative deals, expected since he is nobody`s fool, and has also seen his poker suffer. I would be willing to wager that his personal life and attempts to make the marriage work impacted on his performances at the poker tables. It has to.
Now that he is single and unfettered one can expect big things from Mr. Negreanu in 2008. I`m predicting at least one WSOP bracelet and strong showings in at least two or three major events.
Now if only Pete Sampras could get rid of his (admittedly mega-hot) ball and chain then maybe he could take a set of Federer. Maybe.
