Pot Limit Omaha Pussy

01 September 2007

September 1 - I made a big laydown in a cash game of Omaha Pot Limit, and I`d like to know if I did the right thing or played the hand poorly. The result is not relevant (I would have won the hand if I hadn`t folded on the flop), and immaterial (it was a small cash game $2/$4 Pot Limit), but it was the PRINCIPLE damnit.

I have asked Rolf Slotboom, a fantastic poker player in this format, for his opinion. If he bothers to write back to me, which would be sweet, I`ll post it here. If not you should feel free to let me know what you would have done, especially if you have made millions playing Pot Limit Omaha.

Email me at marc@topaffiliate.co.za with the subject heading "Omaha", and I`ll post it here if it is a serious piece of analysis...

Now on to the hand:

Please note that I hardly ever play pot-limit Omaha (which may be apparent from my play in this hand!), so I play very low limits when I do sit down at those tables.

I was playing as masterbets, and this was only the third hand I`d played at the table - winning one immediately before this hand. I also knew, just knew that both players would be willing to go all-in after the flop, as was the case.

I didn`t know that these players were so weak, but ignoring that my question is more theoretical:

If you hold middle set + the second nut flush (but with three of the suit) and face a bet, a raise, and you are pretty sure that both players are going to go all-in on the flop, should you call both all-ins or fold?

I feel that it was legitimate to think that someone held QQ and/or the Ax nut flush draw, and that as I was facing two opponents I could have been outdrawn and/or already behind.

But perhaps I was far too cautious?

How would you have played this hand?
