November 15 - When Barack Obama was voted as President of the United States, online poker players believed that they had a fighting chance to finally get the controversial Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act evoked once and for all.
However, this gaming public was dealt another blow this week when it was learned that the Republicans are doing everything in their power to ensure that the final stages of enforcing the UIGEA are put into place just before they leave office.
In what many consider to be mean and sneaky, the Republicans have planned to officially enforce the UIGEA one single day before the Democratic Obama is sworn into office.
The most powerful pro-online poker group in the United States, the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) has expressed its shock and disgust with the way the present government is conducting the affair. Their main complaint is that the UIGEA is still considered by the uppermost echelons in the country`s financial sector to be ambiguous and totally unworkable.
The PPA has decided to launch a massive campaign to get its 1 million strong members to express their disgust and disapproval at the move.
As such, the group is asking its members to inundate the Federal Reserve`s offices and let them know their sentiments regarding their decision to push the UIGEA through in such an underhanded way. They should inform the Feds that a law that cannot be understood by most banks in the country simply should not be finalized.
The Federal Reserve Consumer Complaints phone number is 888-851-1920 and all internet casino and poker fans are urged to call.
