The government of Sweden commissioned a report about online poker. Their conclusion is sheer nernsense or whatever the Swedish word is for balderdash. All my Swedish comes directly from the chef on the Muppets, in case you cannot tell.
This online poker report claims that players are twice as likely to become addicted to poker if they play at a foreign site, but if they stick to the state-run Svenska Spel they turn out just fine.
Why is this the case? What possible justification could there be? Does Svenska Spel take extra care of problem gamblers, is their monitoring that much more effective than Poker Stars? I`m guessing that the answer is no.
They do have the only official online poker license in the country, even though great poker software originates in Sweden, which has also produced more than its fair share of excellent online players.
This is another example of twisting statistics in order to come to a conclusion that is palpably meaningless, but I`m sure the government will use it to continue a monopoly of the online poker industry. That after all is the real message of the report.
