Yet Another Online Poker TV Show
|
22 May 2009
May 21 - Four young online poker players will feature in a new reality TV show that will follow their efforts to earn big bucks through the internet.
As its title, 2 Months, $2 Million, implies, the four men will be given eight weeks to earn $2 million collectively by playing at online poker sites on the internet. It will consist of 10 half hour episodes and is aimed at the 18 - 34 year old age group, according to the Vice President of Development for G4 Cable, which will start broadcasting the show in August.
"There was something there that represented a lifestyle our audience is fascinated with," said Laura Civiello. "Every young guy wishes they could have this lifestyle, so it was very appealing to men ages 18 - 34, which is the majority of our demographic."
The four young players to feature in the show are Dani "Ansky" Stern, Brian "Flawless-Victory" Roberts, Emile "whitelime" Patel and Jason "Pr1nnyraid" Rosenkrantz.
An interesting spin to this tale is that all the contestants will be going in with their own money, adding an exciting dimension. "It`s a huge challenge," admitted Civiello. "That`s all the fun of the show, watching them go on this incredible journey. For an audience, both the stakes and the lifestyle are the whole package. You want to come to see if they win or lose."
Airing 2 Months, $2 Million on G4 was also a brilliant marketing move, considering that the cable company reaches an astounding 65 million homes in the United States.
G4 has not ignored the legal implications of broadcasting a show that supports online poker, despite the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. However, the show`s producers believe that there is too much ambiguity surrounding the law and that the entire issue of online poker is not something that is clear cut in the current legal system, leading them to make the decision to screen the show anyway.
