September 29 - It has been announced India will host the first
ever $1 million Asian Poker Classic no-limit Hold'em event in a move to showcase
gambling and poker to the relatively untapped Asian market.
The Asian Poker Classic, which will be hosted in Goa, India from March 1st to 4th next
year (2007), will mark India's first ever professional poker tournament, and
help boost gambling and poker throughout Asia.
It is no secret that poker is one of the fastest growing games in the world
particularly thanks to the increased availability of the Internet around the
globe and growing popularity, security and ease of playing online poker.
With the United States clamping down on most forms of online gambling, online
casinos and gambling operators are being forced to look elsewhere for new
players and are looking instead towards the Asian market.
However, popular online gambling websites such as MaharajahClub.com, are already
flying the online gambling flag high for India and indeed Asia, and as such are
the official sponsor of the Asian Poker Classic.
The Asian Poker Classic is expected to attract around 200 poker players from all
over the world. Poker players can win tournament packages valued at $7 500 by
qualifying at online poker room satellite tournaments.
