20 Million Player Milestone for Poker Stars
|
March 10 - Poker Stars, the world's leading online poker site, announced this week that it had managed to do the almost impossible and sign up its 20 millionth player to the site.
It seems almost incredulous that 20 million players are registered with this iconic site, but when it comes to Poker Stars, anything is likely.
It wasn't too long ago - on February 16th - that Poker Stars announced that it had dealt its 25th BILLIONTH hand.
According to a statement put out by Poker Stars this week, the 20 millionth player, who hails from Slovakia, registered under the name of Piposko last month.
The happy player was rewarded for his newfound celebratory status with a $215 tournament ticket by Poker Stars.
This online poker site seems set on breaking all the industry records there are to be broken. In 2006, the site broke the (then) record by registered 5 million players. This also goes to show how far the site has come since then.
In December 2008, Poker Stars set a new Guinness World Record for having the largest tournament running at an online poker site, with 35,000 players in action simultaneously. At the time, the site boasted that it could have taken more if it weren't for a self-imposed maximum.
Considered the world's largest poker site, Poker Stars runs the biggest online poker series in the industry - the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) as well as the most sought after land based events, including the European Poker Tour, the Asia Pacific Poker Tour and the Poker Stars Caribbean Adventure.
