July 22 - After William Hill made a grand entrance into the US gambling
market by purchasing three sports betting companies, 888 Holdings is reportedly
eyeing an entrance into the Nevada online poker market.
According the Deputy Chairman of the London listed 888 Holdings, Brian
Mattingley, the group is in "advanced stages" of talks with Caesars
Entertainment Corp.
888 is already licensed in Nevada to provide software services, following an
agreement signed with Caesars (then Harrahs) in 2009.
In June, the State of Nevada passed a law that would allow online poker,
should the federal government approve this pastime.
Mattingley said that 888 would consider applying for an
online poker
room license
in the state "by mid autumn".
"We would love to do it with them," said Mattingley, referring to the joint
venture with Caesars.
No-Brainer Opportunities
Although 888 is not in need of extra resources to fund a
possible expansion into the US online poker market, the Deputy Chairman said
that the company would not rule out seeking debt funding if need be.
"It's just that we don't want to miss no brainer opportunities
as they arise," he said.
Speaking about its strong second quarter figures released this
week, Mattingley said: "This quarter has seen strong performance in B2C for 888,
especially in poker and casino. We have been as focused as ever on our goals -
further bolstering our B2C performance and leveraging our industry leading
offerings, while maintaining our Dragonfish brand presence and B2B deal
pipeline."
