I got hooked on poker during a trip to Vegas in September 2005. I attended a
gambling industry conference, having been involved in the online gambling
industry for some years now.
The moment I stepped into the poker room at the Bellagio I was swept away. I
had been an regular poker couch potato, watching the big names do their thing,
but never played online much up to that point. The buzz and excitement of being
in one of the world's greatest poker rooms really got me going. It was there
that Marc and I came up with the Poker Experiment concept. Marc had just won a
NL Hold'em tournament and we were at the bar celebrating (after I had donated
some dollars on a $3/$6 Limit Hold'em game). Maybe it was just the place, or
maybe seeing a friend and colleague win, but my words to Marc were "I want to do
that. I think I can learn this game".
Thus the poker experiment was born.
I see my attitude towards poker much as it is towards playing golf. I stopped
playing golf a number of years ago when I simply didn't have enough time to
invest in the game. When I was a student I was playing golf three or four times
a week. My game always improved but as I was able to spend less and less time, I
decided to pack it in. Playing crap golf once every couple of weeks is just not
fun. I view poker much the same. Either I am going to do this properly, or not
at all.
So get on board for the ride! I hope to see you at the tables and you are
welcome to as much trash talk as you like!
