December 13 - What largely makes the game of poker so exciting is that
even in an event full of some of the world's most skilful poker pros, an amateur poker
player can come along and snatch victory.
This is precisely what happened recently at the PartyPoker.com Late Night Poker
Masters tournament when amateur poker player, David Tighe, beat out some of the
online poker world's best players to win the tournament and lucrative $100 000 first
prize.
Tighe, a 23-year-old UK-based musician, managed to hold his own right up until
the end of the Texas Hold'em No Limit tournament and beat the likes of pros Kenna
James, Barny Boatman and Marcel Luske along the way.
As professional and amateur poker players alike bluffed, called and raised each
other for a piece of the glory, Tighe's light shone the brightest at the
PartyPoker.com event as he
overcame all the odds to enjoy the kudos of winning the Late Night Poker Masters
title and enjoy a nice fat pay check.
When interviewed after his head to head battle and subsequent victory over runner up and fellow poker
amateur Simon Ehne, Tighe had this to say:
'I am surprised and encouraged to see that the gap between professional players
and amateur players is not as great as I thought. When I went into the
tournament I felt a bit apprehensive about taking on some of the better know
players but soon realized that I was in with a real shot.'
Tighe went on to say that he was thrilled at his win and as a result would enter many more
online poker tournaments at top-rated online poker rooms such as
PartyPoker.com.
