Betfair Moving into Russian Poker Territory

January 30 - The Russian poker scene is about to receive a boost following the announcement that Betfair poker will begin offering their online poker games to the Russian community. In a press release on Wednesday, Betfair said that it would be opening its doors and welcoming players from all over Russia.

Betfair is known to be one of the biggest sports betting operators and is a very popular provider of top online poker games. Betfair is aware of the upsurge in interest of online poker in the Russian country recently and therefore decided to take steps to join this lucrative market. Several top Russian poker players were discovered on recent poker tours and now these players will have a chance to enjoy Betfair's top quality poker offerings too.

Until now, players were only able to access Betfair's poker site in English, Spanish, German and Italian. The updating of the site allows Russian poker players to find out about tournaments, special offers and new games in their own mother-tongue.

The Betfair team of professional poker players does not include any Russian players as of yet, but other top poker sites do. Bruce Stubbs, the head of Betfair Poker said: "The Russian market is a fascinating one and one that continues to produce very talented individuals. We saw a very strong showing from this region in this year's WSOP Europe event which we currently sponsor. We hope that the new Russian client shows our commitment to developing and producing new offerings and hope to announce more in the coming year."

Betfair's entrance into the Russian poker market follows PokerStar's entrance into the same arena less than two months ago when they announced the establishment of the Russian Poker Tour (RPT). The RPT recently hosted its opening event in St. Petersburg and the event will continue until 1st February.
