College Student Wins Tuition In Online Poker Tournament
|
One college student has won a freeroll poker tournament at Absolute poker, and the first prize is that the online poker room will pay his school fees for a semester. In other news, hundreds of other college students, who believe they have nothing to learn, lost their college tuition (paid for by their parents) playing online poker from the comfort of their dorm rooms.
You have to hand it to Absolute poker - in a moment of inspired marketing they targeted the sophmoric demographic most likely to succumb to the Siren-song lure of easy money and soft living promised by online poker. The reality of the situation is that winning at online poker is a hard task, and making a good living at it is even harder. But for now, thousands of college kids around the world have a dream, and it isn't dissimilar to the dreams that college kids had 6 years ago regarding Internet companies.
There are going to be a handful of players who win fortunes playing poker, and many more who fail trying to follow in their footsteps. In the meantime, Jeremy Olisar, who goes to school at Carnegie-Mellon, defeated more than 300 other students in the free roll tournament, which saw him receive a cheque for his Fall tuition fees. One can only hope that the money was used to pay for his classes - there's more chance of drawing to a gutshot straight with one card to come, but you don't have to tell the kids that, they already know everything there is to know about poker.
