Cory Lidle Memorial Poker Tournament in January
|
January 10 - Following the tragic death of New York Yankees pitcher
Cory Lidle
in a plane crash in October last year, friends and family of the talented
baseball pitcher will ensure that his memory and charitable nature lives on
thanks to a Memorial Poker Tournament bearing Lidle's name.
Cory
Lidle and flight instructor Tyler Stanger lost their lives when the light
aircraft Lidle was piloting veered off course due to strong winds and flew into
a New York City apartment block, falling 30 floors to the sidewalk below.
The inaugural Cory Lidle Memorial Poker Tournament is set for Sunday,
January 28th at the Hollywood Park Casino in Inglewood, California, where
everyone connected with Lidle, as well as his fans and admirers, can come
together to continue and celebrate the pitcher's love for charitable causes.
Sick children will ultimately benefit from the poker event as the Make-A-Wish Foundation will be the beneficiary of the first Cory Lidle Memorial Poker Tournament, an organization that makes dreams come true for children suffering with terminal illnesses.
'Cory was an even better person than he was a pitcher, and I hope that's how he's remembered,' said former Phillies teammate Randy Wolf.
