Could Lloyd Levine Be Californias Online Poker Savior

February 25 - This is the question on the minds of many online gambling fans, specifically online poker players, in the American state of California, after Assemblyman, Lloyd Levine, recently introduced a bill designed to find out if an online poker could be legalized in the state.

Levine's Bill AB 2026 is designed to initiate a comprehensive study or survey on whether US federal online gambling laws (that currently ban online poker in most of the United States) could somehow exempt Californian-hosted poker rooms and players from the online gambling ban.

According to Levine, US federal law may contain a loophole whereby online poker rooms could exist in California, and potentially other states as well, as long as the poker room server and respective player are both physically located in the same state. Hence the study to find out if this is true.

'While we are not sure yet what California's piece (of online poker revenues) will be (assuming federal law allows), online poker would be a closely regulated and monitored activity in the state.

'The advantage of this is that regulated online gambling practices help to ensure player protection and, with players and websites based in the same state, allows for legal recourse should any disagreement between either of the two parties arise,' said Levine.

Lloyd Levine, we at Online Poker Insider salute you! Of course, while this is potentially great news for American online poker fans as well as American-hosted online poker rooms, it could end up being a large slap in the face for offshore online gambling companies.
