Doyle Brunson Pounds Dikshit in Blog
|
December 30 - When Anurag Dikshit, Party Gaming founder, reached an individual settlement with the US Department of Justice for contravening the 1961 Wire Act, he agreed to plead guilty and pay $300 million as part of the plea bargain.
While some say that Dikshit's actions were selfless and essentially got the DoJ off the company's back, many others are angry that Dikshit admitted to going against the law, even though - until 2006 - there was no legislation barring US citizens from playing poker online. Party Gaming, including its hugely popular Party Poker brand, left the US market after the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was introduced in 2006.
One of the industry executives angry at Anurag Dikshit's actions is Doyle Brunson, World Series of Poker bracelet winner and founder of the popular Doyles Room poker site.
In his traditional Christmas blog on his website, Brunson criticized Dikshit and wrote: "One thing for sure - Anurag Dikshit is appropriately named! Dikshit was one of the owners of Party Poker and became a multi billionaire when Party went public. It looks like he would feel a sense of obligation to online poker, the industry that made him a rich man. Instead, he folded up like an accordion and pleaded guilty to some kind of mystery law and is paying a $300 million fine and a possible 2 year jail term. It certainly created some ill will from the other online poker sites. I personally can't imagine what was going through his mind when he made his decision!"
Doyle's Room, meanwhile, continues to offer great offers to poker players including an industry leading 110% super bonus which allows players to earn up to $550 free on their first deposit.
