Fresh Faced Kid Scoops $580 000 on PokerStars.com
|
September 24 - When you look at the face of red-haired online poker enthusiast,
James Mackey, you would be forgiven thinking that he is far younger then his 21
years but don't be fooled because lurking beneath his 'cherubic looks' is a
'card shark' of note.
In fact, earlier this year Mackey won himself a coveted gold bracelet at the
2007 World Series Event of Poker in Las Vegas. But it is his recent achievement
at top online poker room, PokerStars.com that have thrust the young
American
player into the poker spotlight.
Playing under the screen name 'mig.com', Mackey entered the World Championship
of Online Poker (WCOOP) hosted by online poker powerhouse, PokerStars.com, one
of the most highly visited poker rooms on the Internet today.
The young player took part in the $1050 No-Limit Hold'em tournament, an event
boasting the third largest prize pool in the history of PokerStars.com and
before long found himself sitting at the final table online with everything to
play for.
After dominating play for most of the time, Mackey found himself playing heads
up against 'chulwoo' with a 3 to 2 chip lead. Keeping his nerve, it wasn't long
before Mackey landed himself the nuts in the final hand, calling chulwoo's
all-in bluff, to win the $580 212 first prize and WCOOP bracelet.
