Governor Beshear Pleased with Online Poker Domain Ruling

October 21 - The Governor of the state of Kentucky posted a reaction to last week's court ruling that may very well enable him to seize the domain names of 141 internet gambling sites, including a number of top online poker rooms in the industry.

Judge Thomas Wingate ruled that the gambling sites have 30 days to prove that they have taken the necessary steps to block Kentucky residents from wagering at their sites, or face forfeiture of their domain names.

These sites include companies such as Ultimate Bet (who have cheated players out of millions for years, and who we don't speak about with any fondness), Poker Stars and Full Tilt Poker.

On the official Kentucky state website, Governor Beshear was quoted as saying: "I am very pleased with Judge Wingate's ruling. The court validated our concern that there is illegal and unregulated internet gambling in Kentucky. He has given these parties effectively 30 days to block any access to this illegal activity within the commonwealth of Kentucky or they may be forced to forfeit those domain names to the commonwealth."

Beshear was not hesitant to pat himself on the back for protecting Kentucky's horseracing and state lottery industries through the court systems. "No one has been willing to do anything to step up and do anything about illegal internet gambling until now," he said. "We must protect our people, especially our children, from this illegal and unregulated activity, while also protecting our legal and regulated forms of gambling in Kentucky."

There has been strong resistance to Judge Wingate's ruling, and many parties are expected to appeal his decision in the coming month.

The representative for the always impotent Poker Players Alliance in Kentucky, Rich Muny said: "In essence, Governor Beshear and Judge Wingate are denying law abiding citizens this form of recreation simply because it is enjoyed on the internet. This is internet censorship by judicial fiat, plain and simple."
