May 5 - One of the top professionals in the poker world, Matthew
Hilger has been awarded over 130,000 GBP for grabbing first place in the
Full Tilt Poker $750,000 Guaranteed Tournament this weekend.
Hilger, best known for being the author of the popular poker book,
"Internet Texas Holdem" (or ITH), has had a good run at Full Tilt competitions
in the past year. "I've actually done very well in this particular tournament,"
he said. "In nine or ten tries this year, I have three top 100's, two final
tables and now the big win."
Hilger is extremely active in the online poker community, having created
poker forums and written strategy articles through his Dimant Online Inc. which
specializes in internet poker action.
Through the publishing arm of Dimant Online, Hilger will be releasing his
fourth book, co-penned with Jon "Pearljammer" Turner, Jon "Apestyles" Van Fleet
and Eric "Rizen" Lynch, about no-limit tournament hands.
Hilger now getting ready to hit the World Series of Poker events in the
summer, where has reached impressive status in the past. "I definitely feel more
ready than I ever have as I have played a lot more online than in past years, so
I won't be rusty going into the WSOP," he said. "I must also say that working
with Rizen, Pearljammer and Apestyles on the poker hands book has been helpful
in simply being able to talk to these guys on a regular basis, as well as
learning a few tricks here and there by reviewing their manuscript."
As if all this isn't enough to keep Matthew Hilger busy, a joyous addition to
his family may just do the trick. The birth of Hilger's third child (and first
daughter) Isabel Teresa Hilger this year complements his professional life
perfectly. Hilger also serves on the board of directors for Colombianitos, a
charity organization for underprivileged children in Colombia.
