April 18 - One of the online gambling world's most effective tools in spreading the news about new developments and products in the industry has been ordered to stop carrying igaming news, effective immediately.
PRWeb, located in Washington, accepts stories about the industry that are then, in some instances, carried to major search engines such as Yahoo and Google. For this reason, the move has been seen as a jolt for the thousands of companies that use its service.
PRWeb, however, has issued a statement about the move, apologizing to its customers for leaving them in the lurch. "I apologize for the abrupt notice," said the East Coast Manager for Editorial Services at PRWeb, Cari Lyle. "This was not a decision that PRWeb willingly made. We received a Cease and Desist letter from the Washington State Online Gambling Commission, requiring that we immediately halt the distribution of press releases promoting online gambling sites and content. As PRWeb is located in Washington State, we are required to be in compliance with Washington State laws."
Clients that regularly make use of PRWeb's services include top sites such as
FullTiltPoker.com, Paddy Power and Ultimate Bet.
It remains to be seen what PRWeb will do with the countless archived press releases stored in its system relating to online gambling. According to the company's policy, these remain in the system until the client decides to remove them.
Those who were wondering what path the company's UK branch was going to take regarding these new orders, the answer was given by a salesman for PRWeb parent company, Vocus who said: "We have PRWebUK and they're falling in line with the same rule."
"It's a wrap," added the spokesman.
