The main objective of the Poker Experiment is to turn the student into a very
capable poker player in as short a space of time as possible. The idea is to educate a novice, building up his knowledge of poker theory and strategy while simultaneously monitoring his real-world poker play. As the player progresses he is exposed gradually to more complex poker concepts.
More on objectives...
But how do we measure progress? Measurement is mostly subjective, although at the end of the day you measure success in poker by your bankroll. If you're making money playing poker you are way ahead of the pack. That's a little cold and basic, but it's also the truth. But having
clear goals in mind in order to move up the ladder, and compete at ever-higher levels, is also importnat, and this journey will be mapped by what I like to call the "7 Levels Of
Highly Successful Poker":
Level 7: $200 and $200+ tournaments: You are the real deal, capable of
competing at a high level.($4000 bankroll)
Level 6: $100 tournaments: You are solid, but not yet ready to take on a
pro. ($2500 bankroll)
Level 5: $50 - $100 tournaments: You are competent, but there is still
much to learn.($1250-$2500 bankroll)
Level 4: $30 - $50 tournaments: You are ready for intermediate poker
concepts. ($750-$1250 bankroll)
Level 3: $20 - $30 tournaments: You have mastered the beginner's guide.
($500-$750 bankroll)
Level 2: $10 - $20 tournaments: You understand the basic concepts of
poker. ($250 - $500 bankroll)
Level 1: $5 - $10 tournaments: You are on the ground floor. It is all new
to you. ($250 bankroll)
We report the bankroll after each game to keep track of one of our most
important objectives: making money! It is impossible to move up a level if you do not have the bankroll for that level, to help you cope with the outrageous swings of good and bad fortune that are part and parcel of this game. The table stakes you play for is also the easiest way to quantify progress in poker.
