Online Poker Pro Drops Golf Lawsuit
|
August 11 - A top online poker player, Dusty Schmidt, has admitted that he doesn't have a case strong enough against the United States Golf Association, and has agreed to drop the golf lawsuit.
Schmidt had demanded that the USGA reinstate his amateur golfer status after removing it when he offered a bet on his online poker site for anyone to beat him in a combined poker and golf competition.
When Schmidt was just 23, he suffered a massive heart attack that ended his promising junior golfer career.
While going through recovery, Schmidt took up online poker and became one of the best players on the internet. He claims that his total winnings have exceeded $3 million, and his lifestyle certainly attests to this fact.
As he continued to make good progress health-wise, Schmidt decided to apply to the USGA to have his amateur golfer status reinstated in 2006.
However, while the application was being processed, it came to light that Schmidt had offered a bet on his co-owned poker site, to anyone who could beat him in a joint golf and poker contest.
The USGA found that that Million Dollar Challenge was enough grounds to revoke Schmidt's amateur golfer status and the poker player promised to sue.
However, after consulting with a team of lawyers, it seems that Schmidt realizes that he doesn't have a case and the player announced this week that he is dropping the much publicized golf lawsuit.
