Online Poker Reaches Twitter Network

Full Tilt Poker

December 28 - One of the world's leading social networks, Twitter, has joined the growing popularity of online poker and launched the Twitter Poker Tour. Essentially, a core group of players regularly hold micro buy in tournaments at top poker rooms on the internet, namely PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker with a symbolic buy in fee to get players into the spirit of the real thing.

The fourth Twitter Poker Tour event was recently held at Full Tilt Poker, and top player, Flush Seeker, took home the winner's title, earning him fame and respect across the Twitter Network.

"We started the equivalent of an online home game," explained the organizer of the Twitter Poker Tour, Trevor Holewinski. "Our goal is just to have fun and get a lot of people together. We're getting 30 to 40 players per week and its growing constantly."

This growth, as referred to by Holewinski, is dependent word of mouth, and Twitter Poker Tour veterans are continuously urged to tell their Twitter friends about the tournament and the fun that there is to be had in playing. These players use their Twitter accounts, as well as other blogs to spread the word. "We're just trying to grow it and make it fun," said Holewinski. "I think a lot of these tours are too serious. It takes away from the game. This is good poker."

Buy in on the Twitter Poker Tour currently stands at $5.50, with the intention of keeping the price low in order to attract new players. The tournament is continuously trying to come up with ways to attract more players and keep the games fresh and challenging.

"The hardest part is to keep getting the name out there and keeping the Twitter Poker Tour fresh," explained Holewinski. "The prizes will get better and better, especially if we can round up more sponsors. Getting the name out there takes time."
