Online Poker Room Review For 2005

Online poker rooms enjoyed their most successful year ever in 2005, but it was also a year of scandal, intrigue, and in-fighting worthy of a soap opera. There were winners (Party Poker and PokerRoom) and losers (Empire and PokerShare), enormous IPOs that recalled the Dotcom boom, and most of all, huge opportunities for poker players to win and lose fortunes.

The battle between PartyGaming who operate Party Poker, and the operators of Empire Poker was a saga all on its own. The former partners are now mortal enemies, and 2006 will see the fight continue. So far it has all been one-way traffic with PartyGaming banishing Empire from its network, then driving down their rival's share price, and finally making an insultingly low offer to buy them out!

The biggest success story in online poker has to be the Swedish software company OnGame, which built and operated PokerRoom.com. They sold out to European sportsbook giants BetandWin.com for an absolute fortune, after taking away significant market share from more established poker rooms in 2005.

The scandal surrounding Doyle Brunson and his attempted purchase of the World Poker Tour will still be big news in 2006, and we also expect to see a lot more of the new poker rooms fold in spectacular fashion ala PokerShare.com.

The online poker industry as a whole is only going to get bigger, better, and stronger in the coming year. News that poker is a fad or a bubble waiting to burst is meaningless from a player's perspective. Their is a lot of money waiting to be won, and fantastic opportunities for those of you who want to take your game to the next level, or perhaps even go pro.

From all of us at the Insider we'd like to wish you a happy and healthy 2006, and we'll see you at those online poker tables!
