PPA Ads Target Capitol Hill
|
December 12 - The one million member strong Poker Players Alliance is using all its clout and persuasion power to try and target those with the real power - Capitol Hill workers.
The PPA recently announced that it had taken out full page, color advertisements in three of the most well-read Capitol Hill publications, directed at Capitol Hill workers. The PPA hopes that the ads, which will appear in The Politico, the Hill and Roll Call, will impact their target audience who will perhaps encourage federal online poker regulation as a result.
The ad makes a slight reference to the editorial piece written by the Washington Post on internet poker, following the screening of CBS's 60 Minutes program, which investigated the cheating scandals at the Ultimate Bet and Absolute Poker sites.
"In a story last week about online poker, The Washington Post debated the merits of Prohibition versus Regulation," reads the PPA ad. "That's an easy one. Sensible federal regulation is the only way to protect millions of Americans who play internet poker every day."
"We can't guarantee every online company will play by the rules," continues the ad. "But we're certain good laws will deter and punish those that don't. For too long, the federal government has abdicated this responsibility. It wrongly believes censoring the internet and prohibition will work. This does nothing to protect consumers. What it does is limit our personal freedoms and drives players underground or overseas. Worse, billions of dollars that could be raised from regulation are lost. And in this economy, every nickel counts."
"Fortunately Congress is working to pass legislation that will punish bad actors, guard against player fraud, protect children and help problem gamblers," concludes the ad. "On behalf our our million members, the Poker Players Alliance calls on our Congressional leaders to support these efforts and preserve a national pastime. No matter how you cut the deck, regulation is the answer."
