Phil Gordon Quits Celebrity Poker, Funny Little Actor Stays On

Citing that he is annoyed watching celebrities play shocking poker and having to commentate on it, Phil Gordon has quit Bravo's hit TV show Celebrity Poker Showdown. It's not a huge loss as the real entertainment in the show comes from witty co-host Dave Foley and he's still there as far as we know.

The show is annoying, that much is true. Vapid B-Listers make horrible tournament poker decisions as they play for various noble causes. The audience routinely screams out their only vocab, namely "All-In", while that guy who plays an aide on West Wing wonders if his K2 is any good.

Phil Gordon's statement about why he is leaving the show smacked of hubris, however, and one wonders who else would hire the deadpan, willowy, and decidedly middle-tier (in terms of both talent and recongnizability) talent? He seems to think that someone with his TV "charisma" (his word, definitely not our choice) will be swamped with offers to read out chip counts and tell everyone the % to win a specific hand.

He's no Mike Sexton, that's for sure, and although Celebrity Poker Showdown has outstayed its welcome, as have celebrity poker players in general (except for Shannon Elizabeth and that girl from That 70's Show, they can stick around). Phil Gordon doesn't need to work for a living so the only guess we have is that he's really enjoying the publicity and needs a fix of fame, pronto!
