Playboy Poker Ends the Party
|
January 17 - Cryptologic, the software company off whose poker platform Playboy Poker operates, has confirmed that the popular poker room will be closing its doors to its public by the end of this month.
Since its launch, Playboy Poker has brought a unique angle to the gaming world, combining the ultimate Playboy party theme started in the 1970's by Hugh Hefner, with the brilliance of the Cryptologic games portfolio. Playboy Gaming also launched a casino site, following the success of Playboy Poker, where players could enjoy top poker games alongside Crypto slots and table games.
A customer support email sent this week from Playboy Poker read: "In response to your email, I can confirm that Playboy Gaming will no longer have a poker site and will not be moving to another network."
Playboy Gaming's decision not to move to another network comes as a bit of a surprise to the industry, where it is quite common for struggling sites to transfer to more solid, best performing software platforms in a bid to keep afloat.
Nevertheless, there is no official notice on the impending closure on the Playboy Poker network, despite confirmation from other sources that the sites will shut down from January 29th.
Cryptologic, which was forced to exit the US market in 2006 because of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, has been battling huge losses and the departure of other casinos from its network. The company posted a net loss of $5.9 million in the third quarter of 2008.
With its distinct black and purple coloring and abundance of lovely Playbunnies, Playboy Poker will be sorely missed on the industry radar.
