January 31 - Poker legend and often times controversial figure, Thomas Austin
Preston Jr, more commonly known as 'Amarillo Slim', has yet again been
robbed at gunpoint at this time when returning home after a Los Angeles Lakers San
Antonio Spurs game.
According to Slim, two men armed with shotguns confronted him at his apartment,
forcing him to strip while they tied his hands and feet. One of the armed men
shoved his shotgun into Slim's belly.
The feisty old-timer apparently told the man to ''Pull the trigger on that damn
thing or put it down.'
The thieves made off with an undisclosed amount of money as well as a
custom-made platinum belt with 'Amarillo Slim' emblazoned down the side custom
made for the poker legend more than 40 years ago.
The 78-year-old has offered a reward for the belt's return, no questions asked.
In October last year, Amarillo Slim was involved in attempted robbery when his car was
cut off and an armed man got out of another car and demanded cash. At the time
Slim managed to slam his car into reverse and get away but not before the
robbers put two bullet holes in his car.
Slim won the World Series of Poker Main Event in 1972.
