PokerStars Breaks World Poker Record
|
December 31 - The Guinness Book of World Records will need to make another entry in the coming year, after PokerStars, the leading online poker room, broke the record for the Largest Online Poker Tournament. While PokerStars was hoping to beat the record, the site's management was nevertheless thrilled when it happened.
An incredible 35,000 pre-registered players logged on to PokerStars over the weekend to take part in the world record tournament that was played out on Sunday December 28. Up for grabs was a guaranteed prize of $500,000 and players could stand in line to win with an affordable $11 buy in fee.
As the tournament was played out, it became clear that this was not going to be an ordinary event. Besides the record number of players taking part, a large percentage of poker fans were hitting the money and at the end of the tournament, it was recorded that 8,750 players took home a cash prize.
As players battled it out on the felt, eliminations slowly took place until the final table was left standing. After an exhausting 9 and a half hour event, Stan34powa managed to eliminate 34,999 other players to take home the title of winner of the Largest Online Poker Tournament and $30,000 in cash.
Team PokerStars Professional, Daniel Ngu said about the tournament: "No other site brings the level of excitement, skill, and challenge that poker players crave. The previous record was also held by PokerStars when the site announced that 20,000 players participated in its Sunday Hundred Grand in 2007.
