Another college student has won $1 million playing in a no limit poker tournament. This time it's Mike Schneider, who studies at the University of Minnesota, and he won the Party Poker Million held on a cruise ship (a former World Poker Tour event).
In one of those now almost common poker fairy tales Schneider had no intention of playing in the event. He only went along to cheer on friends who had qualified for the tournament by playing online at Party Poker. At the last moment he decided to play as well, getting friends to stake him partially. It all went according to a Hollywood script as Schneider ultimately took home the million dollars.
Mike Schneider was studying journalism but his college career has been shelved, unsurprisingly, in favor of a career as a poker pro at least for the next couple of years. He is the second college student to win a major poker tournament in the last month, after the European Tour Grand Finale was won by a student who qualified online at Poker Stars.
