May 16 - A Canadian student in his early twenties, Greg Metzak, was crowned
the winner of the Titan Poker Eurocity Poker Tour Madrid Open this week.
Metzak, a psychology student, won his seat to the tournament through a
freeroll tournament run at Titan Poker that was held for the benefit of its VIP
members. Metzak is a gifted poker player and regularly takes part in online
games and tournaments.
Titan Poker handed the young Canadian a check worth 40,000 Euros, or $61,500,
for his first place ranking at the Madrid Open at the Casino Gran Madrid, which
managed to attract a large crowd of poker players and spectators from all over
the world.
All in all, Titan Poker sent 66 top poker players to the exclusive tournament
that it runs on an annual basis.
Metzak, who has never before taken part in a land based poker tournament, was
obviously thrilled with his win. "Thanks to Titan Poker, I have had a week in
Madrid and now 40,000 Euros - who could ask for more?" he said. It later emerged
that this was the first time that Metzak had set foot on European soil!
Second place win went to the German player, Ingo Nassall, who took home
23,000 Euros for his efforts.
Metzak said he was not rushing off to blab about his victory to family and
friends just yet, and intended keeping the good news to himself for a while, to
savor the enjoyment. "I think I am going to wait until I get home," he said,
"and when people ask how it was, say well, you know...poker's a tough
game...anything can happen..."
