Tony G Wins Betfair Asian Poker Tour
|
November 17 - While Tony Guoga, more commonly known as
Tony G or 'The Mouth',
may be one of the 'loudest' professional poker players in the world, he is no
slouch as he proved recently by winning the Betfair Asian Poker tour hosted in Singapore.
The 33-year old chubby-cheeked Australian famous for his loud and often
intimidating poker style, earned himself the Merlion Trophy and a cool $451 700 first prize.
In an
extremely generous gesture, pledged half to both Asian and Australian charities.
Said Tony G, 'I have made this donation to show people that poker is not only
money and that as sports people, poker players can also give something back.
While my donation is not as large as the donations made by people such as Bill
Gates, as a poker player I felt it was the right thing to do.'
Tony G's victory at the Betfair Asian Poker tour did not come easily though, as
he had to battle his way through chip leader, Samuel Lehtonen from Sweden, as
well as professionals Ang Pang Leng, Lee Nelson, and others to
get ahead of the field in the final table.
Eventually, however, the action came down to a heads-up between Tony G and Leng.
In
the final hand Tony G's Ten-Six proved good over Leng's Ace-Jack when G hit a ten on
the flop and Leng's luck did not improve.
