July 28 - Tokwiro Enterprises, the company that owns Ultimate Bet and
Absolute Poker sites, has decided to take drastic steps in order to combat
rising controversy and has formed Cereus Poker Network in a bid to pool
customer bases.
In recent months, both sites have seen a steady decline of customers due to
charges of insider cheating scandals. Last week, the Kahnawake Gaming Commission
was blasted by the Poker Players Alliance for not being transparent enough about
the cheating cases, prompting the Commission to promise to take further action.
It is expected that even more players will leave these two sites due to the
recent negative publicity.
Tokwiro Enterprises believes that the formation of the Cereus Poker Network
will stem somewhat the mass exodus of players expected from these sites.
According to the Chief Operations Officer of Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet,
twelve months have gone into creating the network. While there are no immediate
plans to merge the two sites into one, and they will each continue to operate
under their individual brands, their customer bases will be pooled.
"Cereus not only delivers the best online poker experience," said Paul
Leggett, "it enables our company to improve our operations and deliver
significantly better value and service to customers. Our company's goal is to
provide poker players with the ultimate online experience. The launch of Cereus
is a major step for us in achieving our goal and we look forward to making many
more exciting announcements very soon."
By forming Cereus Poker Network, Tokwiro Enterprises hopes to compete with
the other huge networks in the industry, such as Poker Stars and Full Tilt.
However, only time will tell whether Absolute Poker and Ultimate Bet are able to
shake their already tarnished reputations and rise above their ever declining
customer numbers.
