WCOOP Breaks Poker Industry Records

 September 29 - The recently held World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) can definitely be counted as one of the most successful online poker tournaments to be held in the entire history of the game.
Out of the 33 events that made up the tournament, PokerStars gave away over $40 million in prize money - one of the largest ever totaled in an online event.
PokerStars released a statement after the tournament's Main Event on Monday, saying that the $5,200 buy in Main Event was the biggest online tournament ever held. The 22 year old student, ckingusc from South Carolina took home a record breaking $1.2 million for his efforts in this event, beating a final table that had attracted players from six different countries.
Second place prize in the Main Event went to liberace from the United Kingdom who walked away with $1.375 million.
A staggering 2,185 people took part in the Main Event, allowing the prize pool to increase 9% above the original amount guaranteed by PokerStars at the start of the tournament. Lucky players throughout this event took home nearly $11 million worth of prizes.
As an indication of the popularity of online poker among United States players, despite continued efforts by the country's government to clamp down on poker sites, two thirds of the total bracelets were won by US players at this years WCOOP tournament.
Betrand "Elky" Grospellier, who headed the PokerStars Pro Team summed up the WCOOP event: "The WCOOP is a great tournament to play in preparation for upcoming events like EPT London and the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in January. The prize pool is enormous and there is such an incredible variety of players styles. No other online tournament compares to the WCOOP."
