November 13 -Two days after he become the youngest player to ever win the
final table of the World Series of Poker event, 21 year old Joe Cada
spoke his mind about the current ban on internet poker in the United States.
Cada feels that internet poker should be recognized for what it is - a skills
game enjoyed by millions of players from the United States and
around the world.
"I support the right to play poker online," said Cada in an interview
yesterday. "Poker isn't gambling. It's a hobby, an activity, a game. It's not
about luck - it's about logic, decision making, math. We all should be able to
play poker on the Web if we want to, and I believe that making it illegal strips
us of our rights. This is an important issue, and hopefully we'll see it
resolved soon."
The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act has lumped online poker under
the umbrella of illegal gambling pastimes, meaning that Americans are not able
to play the game on the internet. Some states officially prohibit the pastime,
while others make it difficult for player to pay for their poker entertainment
by blocking payment to and from poker sites.
Joe Cada learned to play poker online and is considered the elite among a
whole generation of players who have access to the internet and can hone their
skills at any given time of the day or night.
In the Detroit Free Press, it was reported that Joe Cada regularly got
together with his poker buddies to play poker online and 'hang out'.
"They set up laptops in the Chesterfield Township home Cada bought with poker
winnings after he graduated in 2006 from Utica high school," reads the article.
"With sandwiches from Jimmy John's or Arby's and football on a flat screen, they
battle to see what they can win."
