WSOP Main Event No Match for Blind Player
|
June 25 - Even though a nasty accident cost Jason Holbrook his eyesight 16 years
ago, this die-hard poker fan has managed to qualify for the 2007 World Series
(WSOP) Main Event.
A resident of Bakersfield, California, Holbrook qualified for the main Event through a satellite tournament, earning him a
coveted seat alongside some of the
world's best poker players.
He has been playing poker since the
age of five where he apparently showed a natural aptitude for the game, showing
off his poker prowess and skills throughout his neighborhood.
However, just before his 21st birthday, Holbrook was involved in a severe car accident
that resulted him going into a coma. Fortunately the young man awoke from the
coma, but unfortunately he no longer had his eyesight.
Being an exceptional human being, Holbrook did not allow his blindness to
interfere with his love for poker.
With the assistance of a close friend (who is only
allowed to whisper information about his hold cards, the flop, turn and river cards
and the other players' bets), has managed to hold his own in poker.
Ever the optimist, Jason Holbrook has publicly said that his blindness has honed his
other senses giving him additional ways to sense the 'tells' of other players
and thus pick up when players are bluffing or not.
