The second annual World Series Of Poker Tournament Of Champions was won yesterday by Mike "The Mouth" Matusow. He bested a field of 114 players and won the first prize of $1 million. Hoyt Corkins finished second, and Phil Hellmuth finished third in the star-studded lineup of poker greats.
The final table was a fantastic spectacle, and when ESPN broadcasts coverage of the WSOP Tournament of Champions, it will be worth watching. It's set for Christmas Eve and will include three hours of coverage. Many are calling it the best final table they have seen in recent times for a poker tournament. There was certainly no shortage of charisma or bravado at the final table, with Matusow and Hellmuth joined by the very entertaining Steve Dannenmann, second at this year's main event when he was beaten heads-up by Joe Hachem, and Hoyt Corkins.
A total of $2 million dollars was awarded to competitors in the Tournament of Champions. The event was a free-roll, so entrants were not asked to contribute to the prize pool. Mike Matusow earned $1 million when his final hand of K9 held up against Corkins. The remaining $1 million was distributed to the other 8 players who made it to the final table.
