WSOP Winner Let off for Rules Violations
|
March 30 - Undoubtedly one of the most arrogant and annoying poker players the
world has ever known, last year's World Series of Poker Main Event winner, Jamie Gold, has not
been penalized by the WSOP for twice violating tournament rules.
Gold, who walked away with the WSOP Main Event title and a hefty $12 million in prize
money, broke tournament rules when he showed one of his cards to an opponent
during a live hand and later when he revealed his hand to a friend in order
to stop him being eliminated.
Had the infringements been witnessed by WSOP tournament officials when they
happened, the Los Angeles native would have been awarded with a 10 minute
penalty.
In an interview with a large New York City newspaper, Gold admitted that he
regretted breaking the two rules but said that they resulted from the excitement
generated by the tournament.
After reading the published review, WSOP officials examined video footage of the
events and contacted Gold to discuss the infringements.
After speaking with
Gold, the officials concluded that he 'freely admitted to and showed remorse
about the rules infractions, chalking them up to nerves, excitement and the
fact that it was his first WSOP main event'.
Said World Series of Poker commissioner, Jeffrey Pollack, 'We were impressed
with Jamie's honesty and obvious regret and also acknowledged the fact that WSOP
tournament officials did not witness the infractions and as such could not take
any action at the time.'
Pollack went on to say that while Gold was let off, the WSOP has never and will
never condone
rule violations of any kind and that its officials can and will enforce them at
any time during the prestigious Las Vegas tournament.
So the message is clear for future WSOP players - watch out!
