October 31 - When the US authorities seized the domains of popular US facing
online poker sites such as Poker Stars, Full Tilt Poker, Ultimate Bet (UB.com)
and Absolute Poker, there began an uphill battle by players at these sites to
see the return of the money in their poker accounts.
While Poker Stars has already paid out most of the money due to players, Full
Tilt Poker is still dragging its feet on the matter and players at this site
fear that they may not be able to access their cash for a long time yet.
Online poker sites, UB.com and Absolute Poker, which are overseen by the
Kahnawake Gaming Commission have also not started to pay back their players yet.
However, all this is about to change, according to press release by the
Commission, in which it stated that it has been in "close and regular"
discussions with the parent company for the two online poker sites, Blanca Games
and is moving in the direction that may see Absolute Poker players reimbursed
for the first time since Black Friday, when the domains were seized and
company heads were indicted.
According to the Commission, an agreement with Blanca Games has been reached
and the proposal is now pending the approval of the US Attorney's Office for the
Southern District of New York (SDNY) which is handling the cases against the
online poker sites, which means that Absolute Poker may pay back players.
Plans to Liquidate UB.com and Absolute Poker
According to the statement issued by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission, the
proposal includes plans to liquidate UB.com and Absolute Poker.
"Over the past weeks, we were advised of a potential solution by Blanca and
its representatives, establishing a process to liquidate Blanca's assets and
distribute proceeds to players," reads a statement by the group. "We understand
that this process has been presented to SDNY for consideration and approval. The
Commission's foremost concern in this matter has been, and remains, the
reimbursement of both US and non-US players, as quickly and completely as
possible."
"To avoid further prejudice to affected players, the Commission has demanded
that all parties complete their discussions and implement a reimbursement
solution without further delay."
Up until now, the Cereus Network, which comprises UB.com and Absolute Poker,
has been less that transparent concerning payout plans to players since Black
Friday, and the statement by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission has been welcomed
by online poker players after so long.
