Asian Poker Tour Announces Details of 2009 Manila Tournament

October 14 - Manila is the location of the next event on the Asian Poker Tour, according to the tour operators. The APT has announced that its first event of 2009 will take place from January 27 until February 1 at the Dusit Thani Manila Hotel in Makati, Philippines.

The January tour will commence with a buy-in of $2,500 and interested players are being urged by APT to already be in touch with their favorite online poker rooms in order to find out where and when APT satellite tournaments will be occurring. APT also said that there will be at least 4 other major events organized for the coming and further details of these events are expected to be announced next week.

"The APT has already held two major events this year, APT Philippines and APT Macau" said Chris Parker, Chief Executive Officer of APT. Parker added that after consultation with players, partners and sponsors "a comprehensive schedule is now being planned for 2009 to successfully meet the needs of all concerned. We are looking forward to enhancing poker's presence in Asia."

Poker in Asia has been boosted by several events in the past few years and most industry analysts know that it is the next big potential market. APT's 2008 Asian event was held in May in the Philippines and attracted 316 players from around the globe. Organizers are hoping to beat these numbers at next year's tournament, which is going to be held at the same venue and features a one million dollar guaranteed prize.

Last year's event was won by Australian professional poker player, David Saab, who grabbed the top prize of $280,000. The Manila event was followed by an event in Macau in August which offered a prize of $1.5 million and was won by Yevgeniy Timoshenko.
