Brosnan to Play Poker Old Timer
|
January 19 - While he no longer plays the suave and dangerous James Bond, actor
Pierce Brosnan still packs a mighty punch in the celebrity and Hollywood stakes
as proved by his latest leading role in an upcoming movie about, what else, poker.
The Irish heartthrob will star in an adaptation of the Leonard Wise novel 'The Big
Biazzarro' about an old and mysterious poker player who takes a talented young
poker player under his wing and introduces him to the international world of
high stakes poker.
If the plot sounds similar to the Color of Money, the famed Paul Newman/Tom
Cruise movie about pool hustlers, then that's because it probably is.
However, with Pierce Brosnan playing the 'old and mysterious poker player' and poker
being so popular around the world at the moment, there is little doubt that the
movie will do well at the Box Office.
In fact, he has so much faith in the movie that Brosnan is producing it himself
though his own production company, Irish DreamTime, in collaboration with Maloof
Motion Pictures, a company owned by the Maloof family who own the well-known
Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Said a Maloof family spokesperson, 'The Maloofs are very excited about being
involved in this project and look forward being instrumental and being involved
in all aspects of this movie. Being poker based and with their casino business, the
project is obviously a great fit.'
Actor Vondie Curtis-Hall has been given the nod to write and direct the film.
Let's hope when the movie opens, that it always plays to a 'full house'.
