July 29 -A security alert was issued by PokerTableRatings this week over security levels used by Cake Poker.
It was claimed that despite Cake Poker's statement that it was using "the accepted industry standards 256 bit Two Fish encryption algorithm," it was in fact using a much weaker security standard.
As such, claims were made that players at sites on the Cake Poker network were at risk for having their private and financial details compromised, including their passwords and hole card information.
In quick response to these claims, the card room manager at Cake Poker sent out an official statement which partially read:
"Our development team replicated the described scenario and confirmed that a vulnerability exists which can be addressed to strengthen the security of the online poker network Cake Poker Network."
"We take this very seriously and have mobilized a team of senior engineers to address the problem," he continued. "In short, we are adding an SSL layer to secure all communication between our servers and the client software."
"We've got everybody who can possibly help on this and will get the development and testing jobs completed as soon as humanly possible," said Lee Jones.
He outlined what players could do to ensure that their gaming environment is well protected, including making sure that their computer is secure by running anti viruses and spyware detection software.
