Calling Station - Poker terms
|
There are many derogatory appelations that poker players get stuck with, but none stings quite as badly as a calling station. If you're a conservative rock you could come across as thoughtful and calm, if a little predictable. If you're a maniac you could come across as a free-spirited gambler out to blaze a path of destruction, and at the very least players are wary of you. But a calling station is a fool, a weakling with no imagination, no plan, and no skills. Calling stations are extremely passive.
The calling station loves to see the flop, the turn, and the river, but she will very rarely raise or bet. They refuse to take control of a hand, and they tend to be equally stubborn when it comes to surrendering a hand. In the long run all calling stations go broke, and if you have even the slightest tendency to call too frequently it is a hole in your poker game that demands instant repair.
