Catch Stu Ungar Documentary Saturday on ESPN
|
July 28 - For all you poker fans out there, look out for 'One of a Kind: The
Rise and Fall of Stu Ungar', a superb documentary about the legendary poker
player this Saturday (July 29th) at 7pm EST on ESPN.
The one-hour documentary deals with the many ups and downs of poker pro's life, and includes many interviews with people that knew him best.
Born with a supposed genius IQ, Stu Ungar became a gin rummy child prodigy and soon
began to play for real money, often for very high stakes. Later on he became
interested in poker and became one of the best Texas Hold'Em players of his
generation.
However, the dark side of Unger was undoubtedly his addiction for many years to
hard drugs which eventually contributed to his death. The documentary features
interviews with Ungar's ex-wife, Madeline and daughter, Stefanie, as well as poker greats Doyle Brunson, Mike Sexton, Billy Baxter, Nolan Dalla and others.
While this is not the first time ESPN has showcased Unger, this documentary
contains previously unseen footage, including audio interviews between Ungar and Dalla which were supposed to be used for Unger's autobiography.
Earlier this year, Madeline and Stefanie Unger established the 'Stu Ungar
Foundation' aimed at helping people get over drug addiction and to get their lives
back on track.
