August 22 - Poker players trying to access their online casino accounts at
Chan Poker were surprised to find an announcement on the website that the
site was planning to close its doors to the public.
Chan Poker was created by Johnny Chan, one of the poker world's most talented
players and a ten time World Series of Poker bracelet winner.
The announcement on Chan Poker's home page reads: "All good things must come
to an end... Chan Poker is closing." A link then takes players to a detailed
summary of the closing procedure, including how they can withdraw their funds
from their online accounts.
"If you have a cash balance," reads the announcement, "rest assured that all
withdrawal requests will be honored and promptly processed. To facilitate timely
withdrawals, limits for certain withdrawal methods have been increased. We will
make every effort to accept withdrawal requests through our website for as long
as necessary however we strongly advise submitting your request as soon as
possible."
Chan Poker has made it clear that it is interested in continuing its
operations if the right business partner could be found. "For those who wish to
continue playing online poker, know that we are actively seeking a partner to
provide a new home that will honor your player point balances. We will keep you
informed on developments on this front."
Poker Affiliate World emailed its members yesterday over the closing of Chan
Poker and urged their affiliates to "cease promoting Chan Poker from their
promotional offerings." PAW said that it would be working hard to ensure that
all payments due to affiliates were made.
Chan has never been one to miss a bandwagon when it trundles past. Note how he was suddenly Jamie Gold's "mentor" when that repulsive individual won the Main Event. A lot of pro poker players thought it would be a good idea to brand a poker name in their image, even though it's a little on the idolatrous side. If you want to rub shoulders with the pros we recommend Full Tilt Poker instead.
