Chinese Officials Fired for Playing Online Poker
|
October 25 - It has been reported that over 260 Chinese government workers based
in Chuzhou City, Anhui province, were either fired or faced disciplinary action
for being caught playing online poker during office hours.
It has come to light that since lat year, the Chinese government has been
actively investigating up to 75 of its institutions, organizations and
departments in connection with regards to increasing work efficiencies.
The investigation uncovered some interesting habits amongst some of the
government workers including accessing and playing on online poker websites
during work hours.
Many workers were found to have been 'habitual ' online gamblers which affected
their work through their being late or not being able to finish their daily
allotted workloads.
Worker were either fired or issued with official warnings based on the severity
of their online poker transgressions, and how much their online gambling
practices affected their job performance.
A Chinese government official was quoted as saying that while many people may
think that playing online poker is a trivial matter, Chinese government workers
playing online poker, especially during office hours, sends the wrong message to
the Chinese people.
